New Exclusive Cookie Cutters! *Giveaway Closed*

4 Apr

I have wanted to design my own cutters for… well… pretty much forever. I have a hard time finding cutters that match the ideas in my head, so I’ve always wanted to make my own. I’ve kind of dragged my feet about doing it for one reason or another. Mike has encouraged me to do it for a long time, and a good cookie friend encouraged me recently, so guess what? I finally did it! It’s so exciting to see it go from an idea in my head to a cookie cutter and then on to the actual cookies that I had visualized for it.

Narrowing down the ideas was the hardest part. I have endless ideas, but I could only start out with a few, so I painstakingly narrowed it down to three. I’ve always thought there needed to be a cute baby cutter out there. Not just a baby head, not a crawling baby, not just a baby onesie, but an actual baby wearing the onesie (or whatever…). So my first design is….. (drum roll please!)

A baby! I wanted him/her to be easy to decorate, simple, but customizable. Here’s how I decorated it.

I wanted to be able to do some easy cute toes and NO HANDS. I’m not a fan of drawing hands. This is a super simple design.

You can add some clothes.

Awww, poor baby! What’s the matter? (Mike drew this one for me, and I translated it to cookie)

There, that’s better. Jammies and a binky and all is well in the world.

The second design is one that I’ve wanted for a long time. Wilton used to have a pretty decent one, but it was discontinued a while back, and it just seemed like there was a need for a plain old girl. Not a gingerbread girl, but a GIRL that you could decorate all different ways. So my second cutter is….

A girl! And along the same lines, my third cutter is….

A boy! I had basically the same requirements for the boy and the girl. I wanted them to be very customizable, and like the baby, I didn’t want to have to do hands. Also, I wanted to be able to have them hold things like soccer balls and bouquets. So here’s what you can do with these guys:

These guys are obviously soccer kids, but you could do any sport. Basketball would be very similar. Mike helped me figure out how to do hands without having to do hands. You make them hold something and just put some round circles for fingers. Easy! So it’s not a Rembrandt, but it’ll do for a cookie.

Football, ballet, Karate. Notice how you can just tuck their hands behind them if you don’t want them to hold anything?

Luau! I would just like to point out that that hula girl is a self portrait. ha ha!

And finally (for now!) a bride and groom. I’m going to work on more designs and do some decorating tutorials for these guys, but this will have to do for now. Oh, and sorry about the lack of cultural diversity in these kids. I was decorating late and was lazy so I used all the same color. Next time I’ll be more culturally diverse.

So do you want some of my new cutters?

I’m going to give away a set of all three to 10 lucky blog commenters. Just post a comment (maybe you could tell me what you would like me to do for my next batch of cutters!), and I’ll choose 10 at random using random.org and send you the cutters. Contest ends at midnight Friday, April 6, and I will announce the winners on April 7 (because that’s my Mom’s birthday). 🙂  OH– and if you are going to Spring Fling, you will be receiving a set there. You can still comment on the blog post, but please make a note that you will be at Spring Fling so that I can choose another winner. Good luck! And thanks for putting up with my long absence!

These are just too cute! And so practical… and thanks for the pics of ways to decorate them. For those of us without an artistic brain cell… one picture is worth a million dollars… or at least a half million… You are the greatest!

Way to go Karen I love all three. I have the old set of Wilton boy and girl but it’s refreshing to know that they are now available in aluminum cutters but still a little different in design then the plastic. It will be a great addition to my collection. I am going to spring fling and now I have an additional reason to be excited about being a lucky attendee. Can’t wait to meet you and Mike!..

These are great! Love the baby one most! my suggestion for your next cutters could be a lady bug, (haven’t found a good one) or a butterfly. The only butterfly I have been able to find are the big rounded winged kind!

    • auntycookie April 4, 2012 at 6:38 pm #

Autumn Carpenter has a nice set of butterflies that are more realistic…there is even a Monarch!

      • Julie Moretti April 5, 2012 at 6:53 am #

I will check that! Thank you!

  121. Jannalee April 4, 2012 at 6:45 pm #

Hi, Karen! I’m an “old” friend of your mother’s in Tustin, where we started together in 2nd grade. She directed me to your site a year ago and I loved it immediately. These cutters are just the cutest I’ve ever seen–would that be the cutters directly or the artist in you that makes them come alive! I have two new grand-nephs and nieces and would love a set so that I can send them some cookies. And, if roly-poly ponies seem up your alley (trail?), I’d love to have a few of those, as well. Congratulations on your business and for bringing so much joy to cookies!

    • Kendra April 4, 2012 at 10:31 pm #

Hi, Jannalee! Just scrolling through the entries and I saw your comment. Karen does do a fantastic job, doesn’t she? (And I’m not the least bit biased!) Good luck in the drawing.

  141. Dina April 4, 2012 at 7:44 pm #

These are great…can’t pick a fave and want them ALL! 😉 I agree with CookieBliss about the tools of the trade. There also is a void for mystical items … fairies, unicorns, castles that are comparable in size. It’s either so big it looks odd in the group or it’s something so small the dough gets stuck in the details of the cutter making me chuck the stupid thing in the garbage. Words would be good too! like i’ve seen for “boo” “baby” “mom” “hohoho” etc

can’t wait to see what else you come up with!

  142. Janice Swingle April 4, 2012 at 7:49 pm #

I love the new cutters! I especially like the baby one. Thank you for the picture ideas to go with the cutters. Some people have all the imagination! Congratulations on doing something you have always wanted to do. Great job!

first time I have ever seen your blog and your amazing cutters. I love your baby cutter. Most definitely cutest design out there. Am making biscuits right now to welcome home from hospital our newest baby grandson, and i’m bummed that I dont have this awesome cutter. Please design some preggie mum cutters next. Ecrandal and Coppergifts have one each but there is a lack of this style out there, and with your flair and expertise I just can’t wait to see what you come up with. I would love to win any one of your cutters but especially the baby one. x

  172. D.J. April 4, 2012 at 9:20 pm #

Sooooooo cute and versatile! I really love these. For other cutters I’d love to see a cutter for flowers besides the daisy/sunflower shaped one. Perhaps just a round flower making it more versatile.

  173. Kelly Salmond April 4, 2012 at 9:24 pm #

I am in awe of the way you change things…but what is “spring fling” and where is it?

  174. Ansa Hogan April 4, 2012 at 9:24 pm #

Ooooh I love the baby cutter!

What I would love for your next cutter is a balloon that has a tail so that when you are icing it you can ice a string attached to the balloon. Does that make sense? LOL Ill send a picture if you arent sure what I mean!

    Thanks,
    Ansa

  222. amanda April 5, 2012 at 5:42 am #

I am sooo glad you didn’t wait any longer!! I have been wanting a girl and boy cutter. And that baby with his belly sicking out-oh my gosh! Right now I wish I had a bear like the brown wilton baby set only I dont want the arms to stick out. And I want it alittle bigger. I want his arms to be holding a blanket. I also want to do one where he is sleeping and his butt is in the air (like babys do).
    Thanks Karen!

  223. Jennifer Delaurier April 5, 2012 at 6:04 am #

  229. Barbara April 5, 2012 at 7:03 am #

You really addressed a big need here! There just isn’t anything like then and I love that you made them so doable and with endless possibilities.

Suggestion: Stick with the shapes but make them in graduated sizes and maybe add a cat & dog. This way we can make custom Family Cookies in their likenesses: Dad, Mom, Big Brother, little brother, baby, etc. I’ve done this with gingerbread people cutters for large families and they loved them. Also would be great for Family Reunions, Office/Club Parties, Friends, Showers. People love to see themselves interpreted in a cookies—they’ve already got themselves on car windows 🙂
But there needs to be a good range of sizes so there are different heights to represent different ages. Even among adults, there’s a good bit of height variations!

    Thanks for doing this Karen!!!!

  230. Barbara April 5, 2012 at 7:05 am #

Oops! “there isn’t anything like THEM”

Graduated SETS would be awesome! Maybe a little less than 1/2 ” difference ranging from 2.5-6.5″ so we could scale the cutters to actual heights! Offer the ones you have separately and the graduated ones in sets only.

  261. chris April 5, 2012 at 1:48 pm #

Congrats, Karen – this is great news! Earlier this year, I was looking for a snowboard cutter and a Comedy/Tragedy mask cutter. I did find the Drama Masks, but I was unimpressed with the ones I found so far. I found surfboard cutters, but no snowboards although I was sure someone had blogged about them. I would also love to see something musical for singers – but have to admit I have nothing specific to offer there.

Thankyou for the chance to add to my cutter collection!

The baby cookie cutter is absolutely adorable! My mind is racing with ideas already.

Maybe for your next batch of cookie cutters you could do something academic related. I bought your apple cookie cutter and loved it. However, I teach science and have only found beaker cookie cutters. I would love to surprise my students with some amazing cookies in the future!

  304. tarah lapine April 5, 2012 at 4:41 pm #

I think I posted this in the wrong place first time I clicked on Reply under Mike’s comment. Sorry!!

Karen you are awesome. I love the new cutters and if I don’t win I WILL be ordering!!!!!! One cutter I think would be neat is a really cute fat owl shape. All the ones out there are skinny. But I know whatever you do is going to be great! Keep it up!

I think by all means my favorite is the baby…just imagine the endless possiblities!!! This baby on a tray with all the other items (rattle, onesie, carriage, etc)..what a great looking cookie tray that would make!!! I also love the boy and girl cutters…they could be decorated a ton of ways also…..I do hope I win because I am not able to go to the Spring Fling(boo!! hoo!!…baby crying!!) and I will miss meeting everyone I talk to on the forum and I will certainly miss meeting you and Mike…Thanks for all you two do for all of us!!

I’ve been using your recipe forever Karen! I’m a true follower. Every time I find a new recipe I think to myself, “Do I want to mess with a good thing?” I’d love these cutters! I’ve been looking for a girl one just like it and the baby one would come into great use next weekend!!

Absolutely adorable cookies! I had found your store website and watched your video and browsed your store thinking of all the things I would buy if I could afford it. However, I only just found your blog and signed up for email notification of new posts after seeing about the Ali Bee giveaway that you sponsored. Amazing contest! I have been talking non-stop about airbrushing recently and wishing I could afford one!

These cookie cutters are adorable. It was a wonderful surprise to receive a set at Spring Fling. It was so nice to meet both of you at the event.
