This is the most fun I’ve had decorating cookies in a very long time. I’ve been wanting to make example cookies for the alphabet cookie cutter set for a while, but I just couldn’t think of anything creative to do with them. Well, the other day I got the idea to decorate each cookie with something that starts with that letter. I had a few ideas, but was stuck on a lot of the letters. I asked my kids to help me, and they came up with some great ideas. My son even gave me this drawing with his ideas:
So the other day while they were at school, I took all of their ideas and decorated up a storm. It was very fun. What would you ever do with this assortment of cookies? I have no idea. But it was fun anyway.
All of these were done with Meringue Powder Buttercream, which I watered down a bit so that it was a thick glaze consistency. I used bags and tips, but you could also use squeeze bottles to get the same effect. I would use the ones with the couplers if you want to get good detail.
A is for
Ants! I learned something of value doing this cookie. It took me three tries to do the red and white checks. Well, actually three and a half. First, I outlined with white. It looked terrible. So I scraped it off and outlined with red. Still terrible. But before I scraped that one off, I went over the top of it with black outlines to see if that might be the solution. I still wasn’t happy. I called Mike in and asked him what I should do. He suggested mixing red and white to make a pinkish-red color to outline with. So that’s what I did, and it worked great! So file that away in your brain in case you ever have to do red and white checks on a cookie. 🙂
B is for
Bumblebee. This wasn’t my favorite. I think I could have been a little more creative. But oh well.
C is for
Camouflage. Check out Sweet Sugarbelle’s guest post on Sweetopia for a tutorial on doing camo. It came in super handy for this cookie.
D is for
Doughnut!
E is for
Explosion!
F is for
Fire. You know, after the explosion.
G is for
Golf.
H is for
Harry Potter! I was hesitant to do this one, but my kids are SO into Harry Potter right now. My 10-year-old is just about to finish the 5th book, and my 8-year-old just started the 3rd book. So of course when I asked them what starts with H, they both shouted in unison “Harry Potter!” So there you go. Harry in the shape of an H.
I is for
Icy Igloo.
J is for 
Jump rope.
K is for
Karate!
L is for
Leopard. Why did my L cookie spread more than any of the others? That is the question of the day. And another question is, do you need a leopard print tutorial? Sweet Sugarbelle is your girl.
M is for
Mountains.

Numbers. My daughter was so bummed that I didn’t do her idea on this one. She wanted me to make it sparkly and have a price tag hanging off of it, so that it would be N is for “New”. I thought that was a really cute idea, I just didn’t know if I could pull it off. Sorry Kelly. I totally took the easy way out on this one.
O is for
Orange.
P is for
Purple Paisley. This is one I did because I’ve been wanting to mess around with the paisley pattern on a cookie. My kids looked at it and were like, “Huh?” I said “It’s Paisley! And it’s Purple!”. And they said “okaaaaaaaaaaaay”. But hey, now I know how to do paisley in frosting, which will come in handy for Father’s Day ties.

R is for
Rainbow. Awww.

T is for 
Tiger. Another one that I wanted to do for selfish reasons. I’ve been wanting to learn zebra stripes and tiger stripes, which are very similar– The tiger stripes are just smaller and closer together. So this was good practice. If you’d like a tutorial on zebra stripes, Sugarbelle has a great one for that, too! I bet you can’t guess what’s coming up for the letter Z…
U is for
Up!
V is for
Vines and Violet.
W is for
Watermelon!

X-ray– if letters had bones.

Awesome! Impressive and an inspiration. I think I would use the cookie cutters for poetry – maybe a cookie haiku but also for ornaments – salt dough decoration possibilities limitless – edible and non-edible art 🙂
I love this idea! If I had these Alphabet cutters, I would make a new profile picture for my Facebook page, with each letter of my name decorated to show my interests and personality traits.

I have done lots of different things baking wise over the years…but seem to be coming back again and again to cookie decorating. Recently one of the teachers from my kids school asked me to teach them cookie decorating. So I held a class as a gift to them It ended up being 12 of the teachers. I used a lots of your ideas from your website, starting with the practice sheets. It was so much fun! We did it right before Valentines.

I’m just getting started in decorating, and I think these would be great! I could do my kids monograms, make personalized ones for each child when they come to a birthday party or class snack, they would be cute for a baby shower or a bridal shower with the new last initial. . . the possibilities are endless!
Oh my gosh…those are to cute for words!!! Plus that you did them in one afternoon. Just awesome! I’ve been dragging my feet to do some Mardi Gras cookies this week. The first thing I would do would be my kids names with these. Maybe try and include things they like on the letters.
Those cookies are amazingly cute! I’ve been wanting letter cutters for awhile now. Every year we make pancakes for my kids birthdays that spell out their name. Cutting them out would be so much easier! Of course, your tutorial would be absolutely adorable for a school class party. Hope I win!
I have to admit I would completely steal your idea and have my daughter come up with something representative of each letter. Sure she’s in 4th grade and has been familiar with letter for some time now, but it’s such a brain stretching creative activity.
Would also be fun to bake words and put them in my daughter’s lunch to unscramble. Then eat of course : )
Those cookies are amazing! It must have taken forever just to mix up all those colors let alone pipe all of those beautiful designs! I would probably use them for birthday cookies a lot, with the birthday kid’s initial or entire name spelled out.
My daughter is a kindergarten teacher, so I would help her teach letter sounds by making cookies for her students! The class would create a list of words that start with “A” and I would create those designs on “A” cookies. Or at the end of the school year, you could have an alphabet celebration party with all the letters (aka Karen’s style!)

Wow Karen, this is really terrific and so very creative.
My daughter is bowling in a state tournament and we are making cookie platters for the opposing teams. I think the letters would be great to spell out the names of each team, decorated in the school colors. The possibilities are endless.

If I had this cutter set I would make BIG plans to do the whole alphabet, all the names in my family and maybe some special holiday ones. Then I would make my grandkids’ names and pretend I will find the time to do the rest….

Hmmm…maybe an Alphabet Party for my son’s 3rd bday. I could have some fun with that! Or kids birthday presents…spell out their name and give instead of buying gifts! I doubt they would care if it was cookies THIS cool! OK, I have a strange question. I just got done doing Valentine’s cookies for my daughter and that was only 3 colors. For this do you always have frosting in bags and ready to go or did you mix up a batch of frosting and just color it 20 different colors and have THAT many decorating bags, with tips (and some are thick for outlining and some are runny for flooding)? I am overwhelmed at how you managed the logistics of this one! Thanks!

Oh, I’d love to use a set of these to make gifts for friends’ birthdays. Who wouldn’t love to get a set of decorated cookies that spelled out their name and were decorated with ideas specific to themselves (hobbies, favorite things, personal history, etc.)? It’s flexible enough to work for both men and women.

Wow! All of them are so wonderful! I’d have to say my favorites are the Paisley and the Watermelon. I think it would be fun to make for party favors for my kids’ birthdays. Using the first letter of their name and decorating the letter to match the theme. They’d be really cute to include in a baby shower bouquet by decorating “baby” in some fun prints and colors to match the theme and gender of the baby.

First of all, this is beyond cool!!!!!
Second, I have always seen the letters, but hated that they do not include cut-outs (like the center of “A” or the middle of “O”. I always thought that the cookie would stand out. However, in looking at your designs, I didn’t even notice that the cookie centers weren’t cut out! I realized it when you showed the cutters. You did a fantastic job and have turned me on to liking the alphabet cutters without the cutouts! 🙂

This post blew me away! I really liked each and every letter’s design! And the timing couldn’t be better, as I was just looking at finding an alphabet set for myself!
I would create a large back-to-school sheet cake, decorated as a blackboard, with the letters as illustrations for the alphabet.
I would make special initial cookies for my 3 kids on their birthdays.
These are so creative and must have taken you such a long time! I am very impressed 🙂 I LOVE the quilt, what an awesome idea, I have to try that sometime! If I had Alphabet Cutters Id use them all the time, weddings, anniversaries, school projects…skys the limit!!

I think that I would use them for making cookies to decorate cakes…besides my kids names, I think incorporating designs & words (things like shoes or sports) or even non-traditional celebrations. I also think it could be alot of fun in helping my daughter who is just learning to read/spell….and reward her with the finished products when the lesson is done 🙂

As always–so clever and creative! That was a lot of work, too! If I had this set I would make cookies with my kids’ first initials decorated with their interests for their birthdays. But also, I would make cookies for my son’s Kindergarten class. Each week they focus on a different letter of the alphabet.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE what you did with your letter cookies!!! I thoroughly enjoyed looking at them and guessing what the letters were depicting before I looked at the answer. I only missed two (I thought E = eruption, and thought H = happy. ; )). If I win the cookie cutters, I will do the same thing with my younger children. I will let them help me decide what each letter should represent. I may even do this with the grandkids also. I think that your cookies in this post are a true work of art!

OMG, These are brilliant!!! I’ve been thinking about getting this set for a long time, and now I am inspired. Wouldn’t this be fun for a baby gift? I love your blog and all your helpful hints. I mostly decorate cookies, but just took the Wilton 1 course, to get more familiar with buttercream. The instructor asked why I was using plastic wrap for filling my pastry bags, so I showed her and she was thrilled. One week, I forgot my plastic, but EVERYONE else had some to share with me. LOL.

I would use them to make cookies for all the kiddos in the neighborhood to come over and have a little cookie party with my kids and have their name all spelled out with the cookie cutters! Each kid would have a different theme.

I would make sure each and every cookie tray would have either the name spelled out or the holiday spelled out… What you have done here was so much fun too look at, love how you and your kids came together for this project….and I bet they are absolutely delish! Super cute! If I had a set – I would make them all the time. I would do the “letter of the day” with my kids – snack and learning tool! 🙂
The possibilities are endless! To start, I’d spell out the name of the person I’m making the cookies for.
Off the hook!!! So amazing! I have no letters because I am still trying to catch up with you girls on every other thing! I’m still getting supplies and such but after I baked for Valentines Day (for my family) everyone is waiting “impatiently” for what I will make next! The letters would be really cool to decorate…so many possibilities!!

I love your decorated cookies….all of them. As a cookie decorating novice, I appreciate all your ideas, tutorials and especially the pictures. They say that copying is the best form of flattery, so please feel flattered. If I won your alphabet set, I would make cookies for my family birthdays spelling out their name and decorated with images of what makes them special to me.
If I won these cutters I would make my children’s teachers a cookie bouquet of their name for all the hard work and time they put in teaching each day.

I would use the letters to spell the name of the holiday/event or the recipient of the cookies for a platter/box. Initials, words (LOVE,FREEDOM,FALL,SPRING,BRRRRR). I can see all sorts of fun things to do with them. I do love your creative alphabet. Making all the different colors of frosting would have done me in though.
I would make name cookies. Also I think it would be a cute idea for a teacher.
Holy cow. I love these. Love them! You are so amazing. I don’t even have words. If I won letters from you…what would I do? Probably stroke them and rock back and forth talking to myself with joy. More practically, everyone gets their name for their birthday for the next forever.

I have been wanting to get some ABC cookies cutters, my plan was to use cookies as little gifts/favors for baby shower and nephew’s 3rd Bday. Also I am doing a blog for cancer and was thinking it would be nice to spell “HOPE” & “CURE” out and decorate them pretty for the cause.

OMG your cookies are adorable, I haven’t seen cookies like these in a while, you are a great “cookie artist” I’m planning a baby shower, so I would use them to spell the name of the baby boy and as favors.

I would do what you did, but use a different design for each letter just as a challenge.
I would make cookies to spell out words for my nephew to help him with reading. Just a fun way to learn and if he would get the word right he could eat it! You are very creative love everything you do!

All I can say is WOW. My goal is to be as good as you one day. My rounding hips and tush will grow as I practice! It’s worth it! If I won the set I would have to make P, Q, R and W.
I would love to make the names of the kids in my classroom and make some of our favorite books that we have read.

I homeschool my 8 kiddos. 4 of my 8 are adopted through foster care and have many challenges. One of them, in particular, is a wonderful little girl (6) who was meth exposed before birth. She has lots of struggles learning, but luuuuuuuvs to help me in the kitchen. These are BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for the ideas — we will be doing these for school time!!!
