A is for Alphabet *GIVEAWAY CLOSED*

15 Feb

This is the most fun I’ve had decorating cookies in a very long time. I’ve been wanting to make example cookies for the alphabet cookie cutter set for a while, but I just couldn’t think of anything creative to do with them. Well, the other day I got the idea to decorate each cookie with something that starts with that letter.  I had a few ideas, but was stuck on a lot of the letters. I asked my kids to help me, and they came up with some great ideas. My son even gave me this drawing with his ideas:

So the other day while they were at school, I took all of their ideas and decorated up a storm. It was very fun. What would you ever do with this assortment of cookies? I have no idea. But it was fun anyway.

All of these were done with Meringue Powder Buttercream, which I watered down a bit so that it was a thick glaze consistency. I used bags and tips, but you could also use squeeze bottles to get the same effect. I would use the ones with the couplers if you want to get good detail.

A is for

Ants! I learned something of value doing this cookie. It took me three tries to do the red and white checks. Well, actually three and a half. First, I outlined with white. It looked terrible. So I scraped it off and outlined with red. Still terrible. But before I scraped that one off, I went over the top of  it with black outlines to see if that might be the solution. I still wasn’t happy. I called Mike in and asked him what I should do. He suggested mixing red and white to make a pinkish-red color to outline with. So that’s what I did, and it worked great! So file that away in your brain in case you ever have to do red and white checks on a cookie. 🙂

B is for

Bumblebee. This wasn’t my favorite. I think I could have been a little more creative. But oh well.

C is for

Camouflage. Check out Sweet Sugarbelle’s guest post on Sweetopia for a tutorial on doing camo. It came in super handy for this cookie.

D is for

Doughnut!

E is for

Explosion!

F is for

Fire. You know, after the explosion.

G is for

Golf.

H is for

Harry Potter! I was hesitant to do this one, but my kids are SO into Harry Potter right now. My 10-year-old is just about to finish the 5th book, and my 8-year-old just started the 3rd book. So of course when I asked them what starts with H, they both shouted in unison “Harry Potter!” So there you go. Harry in the shape of an H.

I is for

Icy Igloo.

J is for

Jump rope.

K is for

Karate!

L is for

Leopard. Why did my L cookie spread more than any of the others? That is the question of the day. And another question is, do you need a leopard print tutorial? Sweet Sugarbelle is your girl.

M is for

Mountains.

N is for

Numbers. My daughter was so bummed that I didn’t do her idea on this one. She wanted me to make it sparkly and have a price tag hanging off of it, so that it would be N is for “New”. I thought that was a really cute idea, I just didn’t know if I could pull it off. Sorry Kelly.  I totally took the easy way out on this one.

O is for

Orange.

P is for

Purple Paisley. This is one I did because I’ve been wanting to mess around with the paisley pattern on a cookie. My kids looked at it and were like, “Huh?” I said “It’s Paisley! And it’s Purple!”.  And they said “okaaaaaaaaaaaay”.  But hey, now I know how to do paisley in frosting, which will come in handy for Father’s Day ties.

Q is for

Quilt! Super fun to do!

R is for

Rainbow. Awww.

S is for

Sssssssssssssssssnake.

T is for

Tiger. Another one that I wanted to do for selfish reasons. I’ve been wanting to learn zebra stripes and tiger stripes, which are very similar– The tiger stripes are just smaller and closer together. So this was good practice. If you’d like a tutorial on zebra stripes, Sugarbelle has a great one for that, too! I bet you can’t guess what’s coming up for the letter Z…

U is for

Up!

V is for

Vines and Violet.

W is for

Watermelon!

X is for

X-ray– if letters had bones.

Y is for

Yellow and Yo-Yo.

Z is for…  you guessed it…

Zebra! (If you didn’t see the letter T for Tiger yet, I mentioned this tutorial for how to make zebra stripes. Check it out. She made it so easy!)

So here’s a question for you. If you had a set of alphabet cutters, what would you do with them? Answer that question in the comments, and you’ll be entered to win a set all your own. Enter by Midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 16, and I’ll choose one winner using random.org to win a set of 26 letter cookies:

So you can make all the letter cookies you want. You could practice your animal prints:

Or fabric patterns:

Or just crazy, random things:

That’s it for today. Over and out from

Awesome! Impressive and an inspiration. I think I would use the cookie cutters for poetry – maybe a cookie haiku but also for ornaments – salt dough decoration possibilities limitless – edible and non-edible art 🙂

  2. Siobhan February 15, 2011 at 8:20 am #

I love this idea! If I had these Alphabet cutters, I would make a new profile picture for my Facebook page, with each letter of my name decorated to show my interests and personality traits.

  3. Pam (aka CookieCrazie) February 15, 2011 at 8:23 am #

You are so amazing, Karen. Everyone of these cookies is a work of art. And you did them all in one afternoon?? Oh my…..that floors me. 🙂 I love them.

If I had this set, I would definitely use them for the first initial of the birthday girl/boy or baby girl/boy to make a very special personalized cookie for them. 🙂 Thanks for always writing such fun blog posts and offering such wonderful blog give-aways. :)))))))

  4. Kendra February 15, 2011 at 8:25 am #

I would make my kids names as a special treat for them. Your ideas were excellent!

  5. Carmen February 15, 2011 at 8:27 am #

Hola Karen, si tuviera estos cortadores de alfabeto, haria unas galletas que formaran la palabra AMOR.

This is wonderful! The “W” is my favorite. What couldn’t you do with this set? Initials for birthdays, special messages, so many ideas (and so little time!)

  8. Lori L February 15, 2011 at 8:33 am #

  10. Melinda Blakely February 15, 2011 at 8:35 am #

Thank you so much for all your work you put into showing your ideas, tips and tricks. I have done lots of different things baking wise over the years…but seem to be coming back again and again to cookie decorating. Recently one of the teachers from my kids school asked me to teach them cookie decorating. So I held a class as a gift to them It ended up being 12 of the teachers. I used a lots of your ideas from your website, starting with the practice sheets. It was so much fun! We did it right before Valentines.

    Anyways, I love the A,B,C cookie’s. Here’s my ideas.
    – momogram goodie bag cookie’s
    – baby shower favors – baby’s first initial.
    – first birthday…A,B,C theme party.

    Have a great day!

  11. Becky Mickelsen February 15, 2011 at 8:36 am #

If i won the alphabet cookie cutters i would make each one of my kids their names. They would be very impressed that their mom was so creative.

  12. Kristen Babcock February 15, 2011 at 8:37 am #

I would use them as a teaching tool for my little ones to learn the alphabet in a REALLY fun way!! Your cookies are beautiful and what creativity! Thank you for sharing them!!

  13. Keisha Hill February 15, 2011 at 8:37 am #

I’m just getting started in decorating, and I think these would be great! I could do my kids monograms, make personalized ones for each child when they come to a birthday party or class snack, they would be cute for a baby shower or a bridal shower with the new last initial. . . the possibilities are endless!

  14. Missy February 15, 2011 at 8:38 am #

Oh my gosh…those are to cute for words!!! Plus that you did them in one afternoon. Just awesome! I’ve been dragging my feet to do some Mardi Gras cookies this week. The first thing I would do would be my kids names with these. Maybe try and include things they like on the letters.

  15. Kami Jensen February 15, 2011 at 8:40 am #

Those cookies are amazingly cute! I’ve been wanting letter cutters for awhile now. Every year we make pancakes for my kids birthdays that spell out their name. Cutting them out would be so much easier! Of course, your tutorial would be absolutely adorable for a school class party. Hope I win!

  16. R. May February 15, 2011 at 8:41 am #

I have to admit I would completely steal your idea and have my daughter come up with something representative of each letter. Sure she’s in 4th grade and has been familiar with letter for some time now, but it’s such a brain stretching creative activity.

Would also be fun to bake words and put them in my daughter’s lunch to unscramble. Then eat of course : )

  17. Debbie February 15, 2011 at 8:41 am #

Those cookies are amazing! It must have taken forever just to mix up all those colors let alone pipe all of those beautiful designs! I would probably use them for birthday cookies a lot, with the birthday kid’s initial or entire name spelled out.

  18. Linda February 15, 2011 at 8:41 am #

My daughter is a kindergarten teacher, so I would help her teach letter sounds by making cookies for her students! The class would create a list of words that start with “A” and I would create those designs on “A” cookies. Or at the end of the school year, you could have an alphabet celebration party with all the letters (aka Karen’s style!)

  19. MAMI February 15, 2011 at 8:41 am #

I’d try your cookies, of course!!

  21. Lola Cueto February 15, 2011 at 8:44 am #

Your cookies look very very lovely. They must be delicious!!!
I’d make my family and friends’ names and I’d give as a present for them… I think that my friend Gregoria would love me more then my daughter Eva!!!!
    Lola

  22. Teresa February 15, 2011 at 8:44 am #

If I had this set I would like to do special cookies for every person in my family. Or maybe a prize for a little child, each letter you recognize, one letter you could eat. Kisses from Spain

  23. happywhennothungry February 15, 2011 at 8:45 am #

These cookies look amazing!! I love the “q” and “w” cookies. I am throwing a baby shower for my sister and would decorate the letters in pastels, polka dots, and baby animals!

  24. Samantha February 15, 2011 at 8:45 am #

If I had this wonderful set of cutters the first thing I would do is make cookies! I’d love to make alphabet cookies for my little nephew who will be starting preschool soon!

  25. Guadalupe February 15, 2011 at 8:46 am #

    Hola Karen,

Que estupenda idea la tuya. Si yo soy la afortunada con ese set de cortadores del alfabeto, haría los nombres de todos mis seres queridos y tengo para buen rato!
    Un beso,
    Guadalupe

  26. Gina February 15, 2011 at 8:46 am #

Love these Karen! Can’t wait to check out the tutorials!

  27. Amy S. February 15, 2011 at 8:46 am #

Birthday favors for my son’s superhero party this summer– each child’s initial- they would love it!

  28. Kori February 15, 2011 at 8:48 am #

Wow Karen! You are absolutely amazing!!! These are so awesome!
I’m a teacher so clearly I would use these in my classroom. In Kindergarten or even my son’s 4K they do a letter of the week. I would totally make the class a cookie of the letter of the week. You are so creative! Love it!

  29. Kara February 15, 2011 at 8:48 am #

LOVE LOVE LOVE your alphabet cookies!!! If I had an alphabet set, I would make up a couple alphabets to give to teachers at my sons’ schools and for Teacher Appreciation Week, Book Week, Dr. Seuss Day and more!

  30. Anita Cornetto February 15, 2011 at 8:49 am #

If I had this set I would probably never come out of the kitchen! I just love what you did with the whole alphabet..but the Paisley is just amazing! I have a friend who owns an at home daycare…I would love to gift her with cookies for each letter as she’s teaching it.

  31. Krissy February 15, 2011 at 8:51 am #

I am so completely in awe of your creativity on these! They are awesome!!! If I had the alphabet cutters, I would definitely be making my girls’ names. They are so into their names and letters and spelling (they are 3 and 16 months) and they would love this! The rainbow is my favorite. Too bad neither of their names have an R!

  32. Anne February 15, 2011 at 8:52 am #

You are so creative and the cookies are just wonderful! If I had those cutters, I would use them to make special birthday cookies for my many co-workers and family just for starters. The possibilities are endless!

  33. Rachel February 15, 2011 at 8:55 am #

I LOVE the doughnut, orange, and watermelon! Those were my favorite. You really showed your talent on these alphabet cookies, Karen! If I got them, I’d probably try one or two of these “themes” (like the doughnuts!) and spell my kids’ names and they would love me forever!

  34. marcy s. February 15, 2011 at 8:56 am #

I would use them to make cookies for gifts with friends name as a special personalized treat!

  35. Cindy T February 15, 2011 at 9:00 am #

What a darling collection of cookies! I’m diggin’ that D for donut! Looks yummy! …and the paisley…and the watermelon….and the ….

  36. Tara February 15, 2011 at 9:02 am #

Wow! This is sooooo cool. LOVE IT. So many different things you could do with them. My letter cutters are way too small for this. If I had these cutters, I’d love to try something like this. How many colors did you use? How long did this take?

  37. Missy February 15, 2011 at 9:04 am #

You are so creative! I LOVE these! If I had the cookie cutter set, I would use them for names, or smoosh them together for other words. My ideas are endless!!!

  40. Cindie S. February 15, 2011 at 9:10 am #

Wow Karen, this is really terrific and so very creative.

My daughter is bowling in a state tournament and we are making cookie platters for the opposing teams. I think the letters would be great to spell out the names of each team, decorated in the school colors. The possibilities are endless.

  41. Phyllis Palmer February 15, 2011 at 9:10 am #

FUN FUN FUN! I would use them for Birthdays / and other commerative days as monogram cookies.

  44. Michelle Crook February 15, 2011 at 9:13 am #

OH MY! Your cookies are awesome!!
What I would like to do with them, if make (ok, try to make!) a set for each of my kiddos for their birthdays with letter representing things about them — character traits and their likes and dislikes!
That would be so fun. Thank you!

  45. Amalia February 15, 2011 at 9:14 am #

    Amazing! Such beautiful work!

  46. Nancy February 15, 2011 at 9:15 am #

These are fantastic! What would I do with a set? Use them as a way to encourage my almost 2-year-old to learn his letter! What a fun way (way better than flash cards!) to learn sounds and letters!

  47. rosa February 15, 2011 at 9:19 am #

Yo haria el nombre de mi hijo para ponerlo en la puerta de su cuarto!!!

    Muchas gracias Karen

  48. Rita - Greer,SC February 15, 2011 at 9:20 am #

I’d spell out the name in Cookies of who I was making a cake for as a special gift to them from me.

  49. Lorrie Gauthier February 15, 2011 at 9:20 am #

If I had this cutter set I would make BIG plans to do the whole alphabet, all the names in my family and maybe some special holiday ones. Then I would make my grandkids’ names and pretend I will find the time to do the rest….

  50. Jessie Phillips-Rodibaugh February 15, 2011 at 9:22 am #

OOOOOOH!!!Love, love, love. My daughter Ruby has her 3rd birthday coming up-Whoop! I would decorate them with her favorite things: B for book, C for cat, D for Daddy (might need a tutorial for effective bald guy decorating :O), F for funny faces, J for jelly beans, K for kisses, M for monkeys, S for swings, T for Tinkerbell and so much more!! I am so excited to make these for her! Your cookies are so inspiring. I am new to the cookie decorating world and it is bringing my family and myself lots of smiles :O)Thank you!

  51. Paula Swain February 15, 2011 at 9:23 am #

I like them a lot…especially the paisley and the watermelon. I just got my own set of letters recently as well and used the X’s and O’s for Valentine’s Day…very cute. Pictures will be posted soon at http://www.bakedperfectioncookies.com

  52. Colleen Boehm February 15, 2011 at 9:26 am #

Hmmm…maybe an Alphabet Party for my son’s 3rd bday. I could have some fun with that! Or kids birthday presents…spell out their name and give instead of buying gifts! I doubt they would care if it was cookies THIS cool! OK, I have a strange question. I just got done doing Valentine’s cookies for my daughter and that was only 3 colors. For this do you always have frosting in bags and ready to go or did you mix up a batch of frosting and just color it 20 different colors and have THAT many decorating bags, with tips (and some are thick for outlining and some are runny for flooding)? I am overwhelmed at how you managed the logistics of this one! Thanks!

  53. Bethany February 15, 2011 at 9:30 am #

If i had this set of cutters i would use them for my one year olds upcoming birthday. I would also use them to make cookie messages for my hubby!

  54. Paula Swain February 15, 2011 at 9:33 am #

I like them a lot…especially the paisley and the watermelon. I just got my own set of letters recently as well and used the X’s and O’s for Valentine’s Day…very cute. Pictures will be posted soon at http://www.bakedperfectioncookies.com.

  60. Kara February 15, 2011 at 9:44 am #

Oh, I’d love to use a set of these to make gifts for friends’ birthdays. Who wouldn’t love to get a set of decorated cookies that spelled out their name and were decorated with ideas specific to themselves (hobbies, favorite things, personal history, etc.)? It’s flexible enough to work for both men and women.

  61. Suzanne February 15, 2011 at 9:44 am #

Oh. My. Goodness. That is sooo fun! I would use this set to help my kids learn the alphabet and sounds. Original idea??!! Probably not but still soooo fun. Amazing decorating!

  62. Trista Lucero February 15, 2011 at 9:45 am #

Wow! All of them are so wonderful! I’d have to say my favorites are the Paisley and the Watermelon. I think it would be fun to make for party favors for my kids’ birthdays. Using the first letter of their name and decorating the letter to match the theme. They’d be really cute to include in a baby shower bouquet by decorating “baby” in some fun prints and colors to match the theme and gender of the baby.

  63. Gisela Feldman February 15, 2011 at 9:46 am #

Hola Karen, los cortadores son fantásticos. Yo haría los nombres de distintos países decorados con los colores de la bandera de cada país. Gracias por tus ideas y tus regalos, saludos desde Fuerteventura, Islas Canarias, España.

Fantastic work! I almost can’t wait until both of my kids are in school and I could spend my days decorating! I would like to use this set for birthday cookies, to spell out the recipient’s name, I think that would be very cute. But lots of other uses too!

Cake deorating and fondant cut outs. School treats for kids parties.

Oh my!!! So amazing and so much fun. Some of mt favs—golf, mountain, and watermelon.
I can’t think what I’d do first—it would be a great way to teach my three year old his letters; he loves decorating cookies with me. It would also be fun to make the kids’ names.

  70. Paula February 15, 2011 at 10:08 am #

These are incredibly creative and your decorating is superb.

  71. Bea @ CancunCookies February 15, 2011 at 10:16 am #

Wow! Amazing ideas and love the designs and decorating, Karen… congrats on this great set!

  72. Lisa H. February 15, 2011 at 10:24 am #

Loved it!! So cute and creative!

  73. Thyjuan February 15, 2011 at 10:41 am #

First of all, this is beyond cool!!!!!

Second, I have always seen the letters, but hated that they do not include cut-outs (like the center of “A” or the middle of “O”. I always thought that the cookie would stand out. However, in looking at your designs, I didn’t even notice that the cookie centers weren’t cut out! I realized it when you showed the cutters. You did a fantastic job and have turned me on to liking the alphabet cutters without the cutouts! 🙂

  74. Andrea Berman February 15, 2011 at 10:42 am #

Wow. Those cookies are awesome! If I had the set, I’d make cookies for my niece…She’s only 7 months old, but eventually it would be fun to make words with her!!

  75. LisaAnn February 15, 2011 at 10:49 am #

Love the cookies! I want to make messages for holidays and names for birthdays now 🙂

  76. Teresa February 15, 2011 at 10:52 am #

wow! love these and have been wanting a set SO BAD!! I would make a cookie for each kid in my 3rd grade class…of course using the first initial of their name!

  77. Pennies on a Platter February 15, 2011 at 10:59 am #

Wow! This must have taken you ALL day. It would’ve taken me all WEEK! 🙂 Super cute! I would use the set for a baby shower later this year for my friend who is going with an alphabet theme for her nursery.

And…my fave of your decorated cookies is the camouflage! Too cool!

  78. Lori February 15, 2011 at 10:59 am #

Wow! Your cookies are awesome; what a neat project! I would use these to go with my letter of the week curriculum. How neat would it be to have a themed cookie every week as a extra-special surprise!

  79. Sher February 15, 2011 at 11:03 am #

Beautifully designed and quite unique! Fantastic artistry. I wish I was that good!

  80. Jodie February 15, 2011 at 11:07 am #

OMG, they are so cute. They would be awesome for my dayhome. We bake at least once a week…what better way to add a little extra learning into baking time but singing our ABCs as we cut out cookies. They would love them, so would I ( I have a slight cookie cutter obsession)

    • Cindy February 15, 2011 at 11:15 am #

Love the cookies! I would love to use them for my sons graduation party!

  81. Sarah February 15, 2011 at 11:16 am #

I would do my kids names first for sure!

  82. Tatyana February 15, 2011 at 11:21 am #

These are the best alphabet cookies ever. How many color did you use? Are those letters big? I would use them for school days.
    Thank you…

  83. Donna B. February 15, 2011 at 11:23 am #

What wonderful cookies and ideas! Love them! If I had a set of these cookies, everyone I know would get a memo of cookies whether it was their birthday or not!!!!!! It would be day after day of “cookie-speak” (I’m just loving learning to decorate cookies!)
    Blessings, Donna B.

  84. Emily February 15, 2011 at 11:28 am #

Amazing!! I’d love to get a little book made of these letters for Ansley. 🙂

I would use them for kids’ birthdays, special holidays, and of course, just for fun!

  86. Julie February 15, 2011 at 11:31 am #

I would be able to make cookies for all my kids’ sports teams, without having to cut them by hand.

  87. Michelle Donaldson February 15, 2011 at 11:33 am #

I’d definitely do the alphabet cookies for my kids classes at school and surprise them!! So cute!

  88. Kim February 15, 2011 at 11:45 am #

LOVE the quilt letter!! I think a better question would be what WOULDN’T you do with these? Birthdays, holidays, Tuesdays…these would always come in super handy!

  89. Karen Anderson February 15, 2011 at 11:45 am #

    Karen–just so totally perfectly “Karen-ish!!” 🙂

  90. Scott February 15, 2011 at 11:47 am #

This post blew me away! I really liked each and every letter’s design! And the timing couldn’t be better, as I was just looking at finding an alphabet set for myself!
I would create a large back-to-school sheet cake, decorated as a blackboard, with the letters as illustrations for the alphabet.

  91. Alexandra February 15, 2011 at 12:03 pm #

I would make special initial cookies for my 3 kids on their birthdays.

  92. Ka'ala from SugarHI creations February 15, 2011 at 12:16 pm #

These are so creative and must have taken you such a long time! I am very impressed 🙂 I LOVE the quilt, what an awesome idea, I have to try that sometime! If I had Alphabet Cutters Id use them all the time, weddings, anniversaries, school projects…skys the limit!!

    • theresa February 15, 2011 at 12:24 pm #

I run a preschool so I would bake the letter of week for the kids for snack. You are very talented. Love those cookies you made.

  93. Ruth February 15, 2011 at 12:21 pm #

Love, love, love the alphabet cookies! I think my favorite is the paisley one. If I had a set of the cutters I would make cookies spelling out my daughter’s name for her birthday cake and decorate them with red zebra stripes.

  94. Margaret Cotrim February 15, 2011 at 12:30 pm #

These cookies are fantastic! You are so good!

  95. Kenni February 15, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

  96. Lisa ( 148CookieStreet) February 15, 2011 at 12:54 pm #

    I L-O-V-E your donut cookie!!!

I would make letters to go with birthday cookies

  97. Heather S. February 15, 2011 at 12:58 pm #

I think that I would use them for making cookies to decorate cakes…besides my kids names, I think incorporating designs & words (things like shoes or sports) or even non-traditional celebrations. I also think it could be alot of fun in helping my daughter who is just learning to read/spell….and reward her with the finished products when the lesson is done 🙂

  98. Emily February 15, 2011 at 1:10 pm #

    Karen,
As always–so clever and creative! That was a lot of work, too! If I had this set I would make cookies with my kids’ first initials decorated with their interests for their birthdays. But also, I would make cookies for my son’s Kindergarten class. Each week they focus on a different letter of the alphabet.

  99. Natalie Byrd February 15, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

Karen, you are crazy awesome! I love every one of them!

  100. karen d February 15, 2011 at 1:21 pm #

Names for birthdays is what I would get the most use from but hoping for grandchildren someday and then we could learn our alphabet….

  107. Jessica February 15, 2011 at 3:14 pm #

Loves it! I would use alphabet cookie cutters to make cookies in my friend’s names for their birthdays! I love the Quilt cookie, so creative!

  108. Georganne February 15, 2011 at 3:16 pm #

WOW. That is a WHOLE LOT of creative ideas! Oh my goodness, I adore each one of them. Especially the watermelon. SO cute.

If I had a set of letter cookies, I would make giant word cookies. My little boy is starting to read and always asks me if he can “make words.”

  109. Ariadna February 15, 2011 at 3:20 pm #

BEAUTIFUL!!! I love all of them, the “K” is so cute..
With the number I would spell names or “say” some message with cookies.. 🙂
    Thanks for the ideas!

  110. Lisa February 15, 2011 at 3:25 pm #

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE what you did with your letter cookies!!! I thoroughly enjoyed looking at them and guessing what the letters were depicting before I looked at the answer. I only missed two (I thought E = eruption, and thought H = happy. ; )). If I win the cookie cutters, I will do the same thing with my younger children. I will let them help me decide what each letter should represent. I may even do this with the grandkids also. I think that your cookies in this post are a true work of art!

    Thanks for the post!

    Lisa

  111. Robyn Frost February 15, 2011 at 3:36 pm #

I love that you used your son’s drawings for some of the letters!! My favorite is the purple paisley! I would use the cookie cutters on days like today…my daughter had a preschool day with the letter “P”!! The “Purple Paisley” would have been “Perfect”!! =)

  112. Mandy February 15, 2011 at 3:42 pm #

I would make alphabet cookies for my niece!

  113. Andra February 15, 2011 at 4:00 pm #

I love your cookies! I don’t know if I would have been able to come up with 26 different patterns!

  114. Loren @ The Baking Sheet February 15, 2011 at 4:02 pm #

Karen these are so cute! My favorite is “D”! So creative! :o)

  115. Jadine February 15, 2011 at 4:04 pm #

OMG, These are brilliant!!! I’ve been thinking about getting this set for a long time, and now I am inspired. Wouldn’t this be fun for a baby gift? I love your blog and all your helpful hints. I mostly decorate cookies, but just took the Wilton 1 course, to get more familiar with buttercream. The instructor asked why I was using plastic wrap for filling my pastry bags, so I showed her and she was thrilled. One week, I forgot my plastic, but EVERYONE else had some to share with me. LOL.

  116. Carol February 15, 2011 at 4:08 pm #

They are just beautiful. Love you website. Refer to it all the time. I love your sugar cookie recipe. I think I would make cookie ornaments to attach to gift packages.

  117. Meg R. February 15, 2011 at 4:13 pm #

I would use them to make cookies for all the kiddos in the neighborhood to come over and have a little cookie party with my kids and have their name all spelled out with the cookie cutters! Each kid would have a different theme.

Thanks for the chance for the giveaway!

  118. barb February 15, 2011 at 4:15 pm #

    They are really awesome!!!

  119. barb February 15, 2011 at 4:16 pm #

If I had a set of these cutters I think I would have to copy your idea. It’s brilliant!

  120. Jana February 15, 2011 at 4:33 pm #

I love these cookies! I want to make my own set! I’m not sure I’m that creative but I’m going to start drawing some ideas. 🙂

  121. Cat February 15, 2011 at 4:43 pm #

That’s easy as ABC! I’d volunteer to make cookies for a spelling bee!

  122. Cat February 15, 2011 at 4:56 pm #

(Sorry if this is a duplicate… I couldn’t tell if that last one went through…)

Yes – I can’t believe, either, that you did all those cookies in one school day’s worth of time! How many batches of icing did you need to make? If I had those cookie cutters, I’d volunteer to make cookies for a spelling bee!

  123. Joni February 15, 2011 at 5:08 pm #

I’d use them to spell the name of the person I’m gifting the cookies to. What a great idea!

  124. Lorna Putman February 15, 2011 at 6:20 pm #

I would LOVE these cookie cutters. I would use them for birthday parties, birthday cookie pop arrangements , baby showers. So many uses for them. Thanks for all the ideas on decorating and your tutorials. You are so gifted.

  125. Maxine February 15, 2011 at 6:58 pm #

They look AWESOME! Well done Karen! I would love to do decorated cookie names. Like I do with the personalized pillows. They would be great to give as gifts for any age. Thanks for the great idea!

  126. Meigan Westermann February 15, 2011 at 7:14 pm #

Wow, this is really fun! My next project is for my nephew’s birthday in a few weeks – he will be 2 and I’ve been wanting a letter and a number set… so I guess I would be doing “C is for Carter” but I really love your post – reminds me of blocks my kids had when they were little. Thanks!

PS – I also had miserable results with cake pops about a year ago, and I’ll be trying your pb pops instead 🙂

  127. Paula C February 15, 2011 at 7:33 pm #

I would be a sugar cookie personalizing fool! I would make sure each and every cookie tray would have either the name spelled out or the holiday spelled out… What you have done here was so much fun too look at, love how you and your kids came together for this project….and I bet they are absolutely delish! Thanks for sharing and all of your inspirational ideas!

  128. Tara Loorz February 15, 2011 at 7:40 pm #

Super cute! If I had a set – I would make them all the time. I would do the “letter of the day” with my kids – snack and learning tool! 🙂

  129. trinette chow February 15, 2011 at 8:17 pm #

The possibilities are endless! To start, I’d spell out the name of the person I’m making the cookies for.

  130. wendy February 15, 2011 at 8:42 pm #

Off the hook!!! So amazing! I have no letters because I am still trying to catch up with you girls on every other thing! I’m still getting supplies and such but after I baked for Valentines Day (for my family) everyone is waiting “impatiently” for what I will make next! The letters would be really cool to decorate…so many possibilities!!

  131. Gabi Tagliabue February 15, 2011 at 8:43 pm #

The project is SUPERB (SOBERBIO in spanish)!!! Congrats for this extraordinary project!
I would write “THANK YOU” for all the ideas and tips you give us so clearly and in a nice way. Then I´d put them on a box and send them to you.
Thank you for your ideas that make us inspire.
(Sory for my poor english, I´m from Argentina).
    Gabi

  132. Kimmie R February 15, 2011 at 9:05 pm #

Oh my how cute are those? I just started doing cookies a month ago, and these cutters would be a great addition to my very limited cookie cutter collection. I also want to thank you for all the videos and tips….they really helped me out…one cookie five ways…..that was so helpful!

  133. Natalia February 15, 2011 at 9:08 pm #

Kare, I really love your work!!! all of your cookies are amazing!!! and the alphabet… awesome!!!! Congrats!

  134. dkelmore February 15, 2011 at 9:10 pm #

I love your decorated cookies….all of them. As a cookie decorating novice, I appreciate all your ideas, tutorials and especially the pictures. They say that copying is the best form of flattery, so please feel flattered. If I won your alphabet set, I would make cookies for my family birthdays spelling out their name and decorated with images of what makes them special to me.

  135. Angela Shirley February 15, 2011 at 9:21 pm #

If I won these cutters I would make my children’s teachers a cookie bouquet of their name for all the hard work and time they put in teaching each day.

  136. Anna ♥ Sugarized February 15, 2011 at 9:45 pm #

Oh, these are so cute! I’m having a hard time choosing a favorite, they’re all adorable! But I’d like to re-create your “D for doughnut”, “M for mountain” and “R for rainbow” letter cookies… super cute! 🙂

  137. Tiffany February 15, 2011 at 10:04 pm #

    I love all the letters!

If I had the set of cutters I would use them to practice the R cookie I want to use for my wedding!

  138. Lindy February 15, 2011 at 10:35 pm #

How fun Karen! That is totally something I would love to do – just because I love details! I think I would have to have a letter party (just like I had a Valentine’s Party just so I could try out your YUMMY Gourmet cupcake ideas!!! Thanks a ton!)

  139. Stacey February 15, 2011 at 11:34 pm #

am in love with the A and the W.

I would love to make initial cookies for friends, wedding favours, and new baby gifts 🙂

  140. Kim February 16, 2011 at 12:36 am #

Awesome – love every letter – you are an inspiration! I would make all kinds of cookie poetry but would look for outside uses too- salt dough , ceramics, so much potential for edible and non- edible art!

  141. Grozzie11 ( Leanne) February 16, 2011 at 1:10 am #

FANTABULOUS is a word Kay, well in my vocabulary, I use it all the time !

Karen, you never cease to amaze me. Well WEll Well Done.

Hey, what to do with ABC, its almost unlimited now you have opened our eyes to a new way of thinking.

    Thanks again…Love your Work !

  142. Cheryl February 16, 2011 at 1:58 am #

I would use the letters to spell the name of the holiday/event or the recipient of the cookies for a platter/box. Initials, words (LOVE,FREEDOM,FALL,SPRING,BRRRRR). I can see all sorts of fun things to do with them. I do love your creative alphabet. Making all the different colors of frosting would have done me in though.

  143. Rose February 16, 2011 at 3:22 am #

I would make name cookies. Also I think it would be a cute idea for a teacher.

  144. Kristin Frank February 16, 2011 at 4:21 am #

Holy cow. I love these. Love them! You are so amazing. I don’t even have words. If I won letters from you…what would I do? Probably stroke them and rock back and forth talking to myself with joy. More practically, everyone gets their name for their birthday for the next forever.

  145. Terri February 16, 2011 at 5:17 am #

These are the cutest, most creative cookies, ever! I love them and if I was lucky enough to actually win a set…I think I would try this. What an awesome Teacher Appreciation gift they would make!

Thanks so much for sharing your talent, Karen! Miss you over at CRU!

  146. Lanie February 16, 2011 at 6:00 am #

These are absolutely adorable!! You really do have a talent.
I have been wanting to get some ABC cookies cutters, my plan was to use cookies as little gifts/favors for baby shower and nephew’s 3rd Bday. Also I am doing a blog for cancer and was thinking it would be nice to spell “HOPE” & “CURE” out and decorate them pretty for the cause.

Thank you for the wonderful ideas and inspirations.

  147. Angie February 16, 2011 at 6:18 am #

Those are so cute! I think if I won the cookie cutter set I would have to try to do each letter like you did just for the fun on it! Maybe I would make my daughter and her friends names so they could decorate them and have some fun too =)

  148. Colleen Gura February 16, 2011 at 7:24 am #

These are so amazing! I could never imagine something up like that! I totally want to try this out!!!

  149. SwankyBlooms February 16, 2011 at 7:32 am #

OMG your cookies are adorable, I haven’t seen cookies like these in a while, you are a great “cookie artist” I’m planning a baby shower, so I would use them to spell the name of the baby boy and as favors.

  150. Melissa February 16, 2011 at 7:37 am #

I would try an animal for each letter, it would be tough but fun to try!

  151. Kristy Ketterlin February 16, 2011 at 7:56 am #

LOVE your cookies!! They turned out so cute! I would use these in so many different ways for sure!! Thanks for the chance to win!

  154. Josie February 16, 2011 at 9:07 am #

My favorite blog post of yours, for sure!

I would do what you did, but use a different design for each letter just as a challenge.

  155. Rhonda February 16, 2011 at 12:21 pm #

I would make cookies to spell out words for my nephew to help him with reading. Just a fun way to learn and if he would get the word right he could eat it! You are very creative love everything you do!

  156. Eva Royo February 16, 2011 at 1:58 pm #

    Gracias Karen. Besos desde España.

  157. Jennifer February 16, 2011 at 2:45 pm #

These would be sooo great to make for snacks for my preschool class when we do show and tell for the letter of the week!

  158. Lauri February 16, 2011 at 3:09 pm #

Wow Karen! You are amazing! I can’t even imagine the quantity of frosting you must have at your house and the rainbow of colors necessary to decorate each cookie so uniquely! Truly, I am in awe of your talent and creativity (and the creativity of your kids)! If I had alphabet cookie cutters I would….. bake and decorate a love note to my family!

All I can say is WOW. My goal is to be as good as you one day. My rounding hips and tush will grow as I practice! It’s worth it! If I won the set I would have to make P, Q, R and W.

  161. Kimberly February 16, 2011 at 5:40 pm #

I would love to make the names of the kids in my classroom and make some of our favorite books that we have read.

  162. Phyllis B. February 16, 2011 at 5:44 pm #

Thanks for sharing your ideas. You are an inspiration and I want to make some cookies NOW! I’d make some alphabet cookies with my grandson. What a fun way to learn.

  163. Stephanie February 16, 2011 at 6:03 pm #

If I had the alphabet set, I would have a blast adding names or words to my cookie platters!

  164. Ana February 16, 2011 at 7:34 pm #

Awesome cookies Karen. If I had the alphabet set I would put all fears aside of making cookies and go for it with my 2yr old daughter. It would be a great way to reinforce her learning.

  165. Ada February 16, 2011 at 9:46 pm #

I LOVE these!! These are so awesome! I would love to play around with alphabet letters and see what I can come up with.

  166. Mellanie February 16, 2011 at 9:55 pm #

I homeschool my 8 kiddos. 4 of my 8 are adopted through foster care and have many challenges. One of them, in particular, is a wonderful little girl (6) who was meth exposed before birth. She has lots of struggles learning, but luuuuuuuvs to help me in the kitchen. These are BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for the ideas — we will be doing these for school time!!!
