Food Coloring Markers

26 Jan

So I made the postage stamps in my Valentine set and piped on the cancellation lines:

But I wasn’t crazy about them, and thought that using a food coloring marker would actually look more like a cancellation stamp. But then I thought that I would probably need all of the decorations to be flat in order to do that, so that’s when I did the top right stamp. I just added all the decorations while the base glaze was still wet so it would all settle in nicely.

Very simple design. They don’t have to be fancy at all. Especially since you’re going to draw over the top of it.

Ok, so I was totally going to Photoshop this cookie. Because look:

I was trying to hold the pen with my right hand and take the picture with my left hand. That doesn’t work, by the way. So then I tried holding the pen with my left hand and taking the picture with my right hand. That didn’t work either. So I had my daughter hold the pen. Um…. that REALLY didn’t work! She ended up drawing all over it. So I had to use a damp paper towel to rub off the markings, and there were some smudges left over. So I was going to Photoshop the smudges off. But I decided to keep it real. Hey, have you ever seen stamps after they go through the mail? They’re all smudged up. It adds to the look….right?? πŸ˜€ Just a little plug to say that if your cookies aren’t perfect, that’s ok!

The finished product. Smudges and all.

I love using the food coloring markers. There are so many possibilities. Do you have some of these?

I’ll give a set of 2 black Gourmet writers to one lucky commenter. Please only enter one time. Just post and tell me what you’re having for dinner tonight because I need ideas. πŸ˜€ I’ll choose the winner using Enter by midnight Thursday, January 27. I’ll announce the winner Friday morning.

Have a great Wednesday!

Karen, you do the cutest cookies! Thanks for the inspiration. Oh by the way, for dinner, I am thinking a turkey burger or baked potato. Nothing fancy, but its only me. But one of my favorite meals is in the crockpot. It calls for a couple pounds of chicken, a can of corn, a can of black beans, and a cup of salsa. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. Delicious!

LOL Karen! We are having “Amazing Chicken” for dinner. It is a seasons panko crusted chicken breast. You rub the chicken breast with mayo and then coat it with the panko bread crumbs. I season my panko with whatever spices sound good to me at the moment. SOmetimes I add in some grated parmesan cheese. Plae the chicken breasts on a cookie sheet sprayed with Pam or other cooking spray and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until the chicken is done. The chicken turns out SO AMAZING! Very juicy and flavorful!! I want some of the food markers so, I hope I win and I will share with my Buddy Christie Block!

  34. Tammy Brown January 26, 2011 at 12:34 pm #

  52. Emily January 26, 2011 at 2:20 pm #

I love that you kept it real! Besides your cookies look better than a lot of mail I’ve received. . . . Anyway, we’re having salsa chicken with cilantro lime rice. Easiest meal ever; a can of hot Herdez salsa dumped over chicken in the crockpot. Here’s the rice recipe:

    Cilantro Lime Rice (Chipotle Style)
1 teaspoon vegetable oil or butter
    2 tsp. fresh cilantro
    2/3 cup white basmati rice
    1 cup water
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 Lime

In a 2-quart heavy saucepan, heat oil or butter over low heat, stirring occasionally until melted. Add rice and lime juice, stir for 1 minute. Add water and salt, bring to a full rolling boil. At boiling, cover, turn down to simmer over low heat until rice is tender and the water is absorbed, about 25 minutes. Fluff rice with a fork.

The only trouble with crockpot cooking is smelling it all day makes me so hungry!

  53. Brandy January 26, 2011 at 2:26 pm #
